Chapter 9- Thing That Go “Ahh” In The Night

“The Dancing Hall” (aka- The Cafeteria),
Friday (The Big Prom), 6:45 PM

“Oh, hey Gwen, I see Kevin finally asked you out,” Kai remarked nicely still hanging on Ben. Ben looked pleadingly into Gwen’s eyes as if asking for help while Julie just kept  her hands in fists at her side.

“Yeah, he did,” Gwen replied raising an auburn brow. Kai was being her usual self. But that glint in her dark brown eyes didn’t look okay. Gwen’s jade eyes scanned over Kai’s form. As usual, Kai wore black high stiletto heels and a really short and revealing black mini dress.

“So Kai, where’s your date?” Julie asked as she made sure she didn’t seethe while asking her question. Kai just shrugged while she hugged Ben closer to her. If Ben didn’t look uncomfortable before, he sure did now.

“No one asked, so I just came alone with my friends,” Kai answered sending Julie a conniving, Julie just sent a sarcastic smile back.

“So why don’t you just hang out with them, Green?” Kevin bluntly inquired. Kai glared at him slightly.

“They’re busy with their dates, so I thought I’d come and visit my other friends!” Kai said. Julie and Gwen just looked at each other and then sent Kai an incredulous look. Something was so not right about this chick. Thankfully before anything else could be said, Kai’s lackeys.

“Like, Kai, we were looking for you everywhere,” The blond one gushed.

“Yea, Lulu like totally went ballistic and won’t leave the bathroom stall,” The brunet explained.

“Are you sure you guys tried everything?” Kai huffed in annoyance. The two blonds nodded, Kai sighed in aggravation but released her hold on Ben and left with both girls at her heels.

“Well, that’s a crisis averted,” Kevin said bluntly as he pulled Gwen back to their spot on the dance floor before she could make another comment. It was their time, not their time to spend with Ben and Julie. Heck, they do that everyday. With alone time, Ben and Julie looked shyly at one another.

“So,” Ben said, Julie smiled and grabbed his hand.

“You want to dance?” Julie asked. Ben nodded happily and lead them both to the dance floor. And of course, as all clichés have it, the lights just happened to dim low and a slow song started to play. Ben and Julie blushed a bit, and started swaying to the beat at arms length.

Accidentally, another couple bumped into them, forcing Julie closer to Ben. The couple who bumped into them said a quick apology before scurrying away. Julie and Ben blushed vivid red.

“I-I’m sorry,” Julie stuttered backing away a bit, but had a bit of trouble with Ben holding her in place with his arms around her waist. She looked inquisitively at him. Ben was turning a deeper red.

“I, I kind of like you this close,” Ben said. Julie smiled and wrapped her arms around his neck while she placed her head on his chest.

“I kind of like it here too,” She remarked shyly. Ben smiled down at her and placed his head on her own. Both swaying to the soft beat of the music. What they didn’t seem to notice, were three pairs of eyes watching them.

Kevin and Gwen, who were two of the three pairs of eyes watching, smiled as he had an arm wrapped around Gwen. Well actually, Kevin was smirking.

“Can’t believe you payed that couple to bump into Ben and Julie,” Kevin commented, “Classic if I do say so myself.” Gwen rolled her eyes and nudged Kevin on the side lightly with her elbow.

“Hey, someone has to watch out for the dweeb, and since I’m his cousin, I think that responsibility goes to me,” Gwen stated. Kevin’s smirk widened as he brought her a little closer.

“Hope that goes the same for me too,” Kevin remarked.

“Yeah, I guess it does, but replace ‘cousin’ with ‘girlfriend’.” Both Gwen and Kevin smiled at each other and leaned in for a sweet peck on the lips. No long acts of PDA with the teachers watching them. The farthest that PDA could go was what Ben and Julie were doing, but it only counted since they were dancing. Gwen and Kevin weren’t really in the mood to get yelled at by a teacher or someone’s parent. And before that one adult, that had been eyeing them for a bit, was about to yell at them for being so close, they went back to the dance floor.

The third pair of eyes, was none other, then Kai Green.

She growled in frustration as she squeezed tighter onto her plastic cup. Stupid Lulu, the reason Kai found out she was crying was because she got stood up. And that happened about two weeks prior, and Lulu thought that the guy who stood her up, would be taking her to the dance tonight. What the heck? Kai placed her empty cup on the table and crossed her arms across her chest as she frowned.

Taking her eyes off of the happy couple, she looked down, thinking things over a bit. Maybe, she should just back off. It wasn’t like she had any real interest in Ben. He was an awesome kid, but, he was more of Julie’s type. And besides, she was a tad bit taller than him, so it would be a bit awkward height wise.

Her eyes swiftly looked up to see that new kid, Allan. From her dad, Allan was a pyronite, or as Ben would call him, a heatblast. She liked him since they first met, besides, Kai was getting sick of all the catty and petty girls in the popular click. And, how could she really talk to any of them? All they cared about really was her hair. Of course, Kai cared about that too. But she would like at least a little more, she decided something.

As she made her ways towards Allan, she decided she’d stay away from Ben. At least till they were on an okay level. Why go after a guy just to piss Julie off? Of course it was fun, but, really, it was time to grow up.

Friday (The Big Prom), 7:08 PM

“Calm down,” Animo shouted towards the impatient ghost like alien, “We’ll be there in a moment.” Zs’kayr sighed in annoyance, which sounded more like an aggravated hiss.

“You said that a couple of minutes ago, Animo, my patience is already drying,” the Ectonurite said in his hiss like voice. A few moments of tense silence filled the air, but soon the image of a building appeared on the driver’s screen. On it, were words that said “Bellwood Jr. High” with a banner underneath it that said “Prom Night”. They were there.

As Ben and Julie swayed to the soft beat of the music. The cares of the world and everyone else seemed to disappear. As clichéd as it sounded, they were in their own little world. As they looked towards each other, they smiled and they leaned in slowly they were a breath away when a loud rumble broke them apart.

Both of them whipped their heads toward the sound. There was a whole in the wall and a ship was on the dance floor. Debris filled the area as the kids flee and screamed in fear. The adults ran too, only a few tried to follow protocol before high tailing it out of there. The only kids there were Ben, Julie, Gwen, and Kevin.

The ship’s doors opened with a “WHOOSH” sound and two dark figures emerged. Two dark familiar people.

“Ghostfreak and Dr. Animo?!” Ben, Julie, Gwen, and Kevin shouted in unison. Zs’kayr gave them an evil eye as he floated closer to them. Kevin wrapping his arms around Gwen’s waist and Ben spread his arms out and stepped in front of Julie to try and shield her from Zs’kayr and Animo.

“Why if it isn’t the little gang,” Animo mocked. Kevin glared at him.

“Little? I thought we grew a bit since last time, and it looks like I’m as tall as you now,” Kevin snapped. Animo smiled mockingly.

“Size has nothing to do with anything,” Animo said, “Prey is still prey.”

“Prey?” Gwen asked. Suddenly, a black net lunged out of the ship towards the group. Gwen mumbled a spell as she stuck her hand out, a blue aura surrounded her hand and a tornado came out. The mini tornado tossed the table cloths to the floor and wavered the banner, just as it came close to the net, her hand suddenly flashed pink. Shocked, Gwen jolted back and the tornado dissipated along with the new pink glow.

“Gwen?!” Ben asked as a green flash turned him into Stinkfly. Gwen tried the spell again but nothing happened, just a pink spark and nothing else each time she tried.

“Trying here!!” Gwen shouted annoyed by her cousin and her powers which picked a bad time to suddenly fizzle out. Stinkfly flew as high as he could without hitting the ceiling, he maneuvered trying to hit it with some green slime. The net started flashing red and followed Ben. Kevin ran about to look for something to absorb, he finally just fell to his knees and absorbed the wooden floor. It was the only thing he cold think of at the moment to absorb.

With his wooden armor on his body, he picked up a table and threw it towards the net, only for it to twist around the table causing the table to hit the wall. Julie and Gwen winced at the sound of the table making contact with the wall.

Stinkfly shot at the net a couple of times, half the time he missed and the other half of his shots just went right the net. Ben flew along the tables to get the net off his trail, after the last table he ducked down, the net flew right past his head. He gave a relieved sigh only to see it glide around and tangle around him. Ben gave a shocked cry as he started to move around. And with the omnitrix’s bad timing, a flash of green consumed Stinkfly and the net and Ben was back to human.

The net flew around and, before Kevin cold process Ben was captured, it grabbed him too. Along it’s path it went towards Gwen and Julie. They both ducked under the table. The net went over the table. They screamed when the net caught them from behind.

All four tweens tried to get out of the net’s clutches, as Zs’kayr and Animo laughed manically as they floating net followed them on the ship. On the way back to the forest, they flew down lower. The town screamed when they saw the ship.

And as it would have, caught the attention of six parents and a certain retired plumber.
